Taxi Talk and "Yamato"

A conversation with am Indian taxi driver on Thursday on my way to the clinic:
Driver: “Going to work?”
Me: “No, I’m a patient.”
Driver: “Oh… What is wrong?”
Me: “Not intelligent enough (pointing my head)”
Driver: “Head injury?”
Me: “No, I need rewiring.”
Driver: (Laugh)
Me: “Or the wiring is too complicated. I need to ask the doctor to simplify it.”
Driver: “Food here causes illnesses.”
Me: “Yeah, since coming here, my cholesterol level shot up. I suspect local food.”
Driver: “No ‘suspect.’ It’s confirmed. They don’t care what food they sell. Lots of chemicals like MSG. They don’t care if people get sick after eating. They only care about money.”

「虚構大学」を読み終えてすぐ、同書のカバーに「建設用地に宇治の国有林の払い下げに成功するが」と書かれていることを光文社に指摘した。

おとといの「日本沈没」に続き、昨夜は「男たちの大和」を見た。何か物足りない。戦争映画はたくさん見ていないが、“Full Metal Jacket”や“Black Hawk Down”の方が鬼気迫るものがある。物足りないのは余計な恋愛シーンをわざと話に組み込むからだと思う。
