「はばたけホークス」（発行所：株式会社南海ホークス、編集室：ペンデザインスタディ）の表紙、その他を写した。同誌は76年９月に創刊。年４回発行の予定だった。ところが第５号であえなく廃刊。第２号の後に払い込んだ年間購読料1000円は戻ってこなかった。第６号が届かないので、株式会社南海ホークスに電話で問い合わせると、ペンデザインスタディが倒産したとのことだったと記憶する。

第５号（表紙はもうひとつピントの合ってない藤田学）の最終ページにある「編集室メモ」には、「……結局、これと言って何１つできなかったことにも、後髪を引かれる思いをしております。各方面の皆様方に、多大のご協力をいただきながら、満足の行く編集ができなかったことを深くお詫びいたします。

来年は、再び４月から今年どおりの発行をする予定でおりますが、皆様の一層のご協力をお願いする次第です」。

「今年どおりの発行をする予定」と書きながら、もうこれでおしまいとも解釈できる内容か。中学生の1000円を返して。はばたかなかった「はばたけホークス」……。

来期、ソフトバンクが南海ホークスのユニフォームを復刻して、数試合で使用するかもしれないらしい。やめてもらいたい。現在、同じ「ホークス」を名乗っていても、福岡は「ライオンズ」の土地であって、ソフトバンクと南海を結び付けられない。
