Last Friday night, a terrorist group linked to IS attacked a café in Dhaka, Bangladesh, killing Japanese, Italians and others. Japanese media report that a Japanese man made a plea for life by saying, “I’m Japanese. Don’t shoot.” Well, with a few Japanese already killed by IS, the reply, if there was any, might be, “We were looking for you.” And why did the Japanese man want to let them know he is Japanese? It sounds like, “Go ahead and shoot others who are not Japanese.” If this is what he meant, it only shows a narrow-minded attitude which many Japanese living and working overseas seem to possess. And it seems he didn’t know being Japanese would not provide any protection at all. It rather invites attacks.
