Comma for Pushing back Chairs and Stand up

また"Let a Smile Be Your Umbrella"(「ありがとう」コラム)についての付け足しだが、"sunaku" は "sunakku" とするのが適切。

"Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation" (Lynne Truss)と買ったばかりの"An Unquiet Mind"を始めた。

A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
(E, S&L, p. 9)

The English language first picked up the apostrophe in the 16th century. The word in Greek means "turning away", and hence "omission" or "elision". (ibid. p. 37)

I am tired of hiding, tired of misspent and knotted energies, tired of the hypocrisy, and tired of acting as though I have something to hide. One is what one is, and the dishonesty of hiding behind a degree, or a title, or any manner and collection of words, is still exactly that: dishonest. Necessary, perhaps, but dishonest. (AUM, p. 7)

After dinner, the men went into the living-room"のコンマについてたずねられ、"This particular comma was Ross’s way of giving the men time to push back their chairs and stand up"と答えたとある。
